What is Epigenetics?
Epigenetics is the study of the biological mechanisms that will switch genes on and off at a cellular level. Several mechanisms can affect inherited changes in gene expression without changing the underlying DNA structure, and this affects how cells read our genes. Epigenetic changes can be influenced by several factors including; age, environment, disease state, toxins, and nutrition. One of the most well studied and treatable biochemical processes that affects epigenetic change of the gene is Methylation.
Genomic Analysis (analyzing our genes through testing) is an empowering tool that can help validate years of unexplained symptoms. By reviewing this DNA road map, we are able to look painlessly at the DNA of your cells to see at a molecular level what may be causing your symptoms. From there we can precisely locate where these symptoms may be originating from, which enables us to use the tools we have to alleviate specific symptoms. Epigenetics allows a personalized treatment plan directed at these roadblocks in your DNA causing your symptoms.
It allows YOU to take control of your symptoms and improve your health by resetting undesirable gene expression. The DNA you are born with may not be ideal… but it does NOT have to define how you feel.
In 2010, Dr. Jellinek began studying the effect of epigenetics on clinical disease due to unanswered questions within her own family members. Her strong science and research foundation allowed her to apply this new and exciting discipline to her own patients with complex neuroimmune syndromes with promising results. She has had dramatic success analyzing her patients’ genetic data to pinpoint the cause of their symptoms and offer a more directed personalized treatment plan that is often safer, cheaper, and does not merely max symptoms.
This personalized targeted therapy has been utilized in many cancer, infertility, and cardiac centers, but has been greatly underutilized in clinical practice. With this advanced technology, Dr. Jellinek is able to show exactly where genetic weaknesses reside in the production of neurotransmitters required for optimal psychological health. This technique can also demonstrate nutritional deficiencies in the breakdown of important vitamins needed for hormone, immune, and enzyme function.
She has had success decreasing traditional medications for ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, severe allergies and eczema, sleep disorders, autism, recurrent infection, gluten sensitivity and irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, learning disorders, and social anxiety to name a few! She has treated all of these illnesses traditionally, and can continue to do so, BUT there are other factors outside the box that MUST be addressed when treating complex disease.
With a painless cheek swab and a thorough medical evaluation, Dr. Jellinek will design an individualized treatment protocol to help your condition. This personalized targeted approach has been shown to:
Eliminate unnecessary and costly medications and supplements
Naturally bypass roadblocks in your DNA with pharmaceutical grade supplements with minimal side effects
Decrease the risk of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance…by improving your health and the risk to the next generation
Prolong longevity and improve your current quality of life
Screen in pre-season contact sports to determine genetic risk of prolonged recovery/injury
Prevent and avoid potential medication reactions by showing us exactly what you need and when to take it
Interpret prior 23&Me/Ancestry/Livewello testing. However, we strongly recommend medical grade testing. Dr. Jellinek cannot take responsibility for the testing accuracy and interpretation of their results. Dr. Jellinek will only interpret SNPS that she feels are medically pertinent to your current symptoms.
